The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Alpesh Khodaji Thakor lost to Merajbhai Desai of Congress in Gujarat's Radhanpur assembly seat by 3,322 votes.
While Merajbhai secured 73,604 votes, Thakor secured 70,282. The bypolls for assembly seats were held on October 21.
The seat was held by Congress before Thakor switched side and joined BJP in July this year. Thakor had accused Congress of "ill-treatment" and "injustice" while resigning from the party.
Congress was leading in four out of the six assembly seats in Gujarat, where bypolls were held on Monday. The ruling BJP was ahead in two.
