In the 2016 Assembly elections, Howrah Dakshin was won by Brajamohan Majumder of CPIM.
Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Brajamohan Majumder of TMC.
In the 2016 assembly polls, Brajamohan Majumder garnered 93689 votes, securing over 47.79 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 16194 votes.
In percentage terms, the victory margin was 8.26 percent.
The constituency polled 196208 votes in the 2016 West Bengal assembly polls with a voter turnout of 73.58 percent.
The Howrah Dakshin constituency has a literacy level of 83.85 percent.
A total of 11 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
