India and China are locked in a tense standoff at the southern bank of Pangong Tso. Since 29th August China has made two attempts to take control of this strategically important location. On 31st August Chinese troops tried to close in on Indian positions but were warned and warded off. Sources say brigade commander level talks have been inconclusive so far and the ball is now in China's court.
Indian and Chinese troops are within close firing range of each other. The MEA has lodged a strong protest via military and diplomatic channels and asked China to stop all provocations and violation of the consensus arrived at between foreign ministers and special representatives.
