Janata Dal Secular leader HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday said the talks on seat sharing with Bharatiya Janata Party will happen after the Dussehra festival. The two parties have entered into an alliance in Karnataka for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Party supremo HD Deve Gowda announced the alliance with the BJP. He said that he had a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and he explained the political situation of the state to him. "I held a discussion with Home Minister Amit Shah for the first time in the last 10 years.I have not met PM Modi," Gowda said.
He added that he held a discussion with his party leaders before taking the decision on alliance. "Before joining BJP, I took the views of our 19 MLAs and 8 MLCs who said that JD(S) should consider entering an understanding with BJP," he said.
Gowda refuted accusations that his party workers and ministers have been quitting after the alliance with BJP-led NDA. Karnataka vice President of JD(S) Syed Shafiulla Saheb tendered his resignation and quit the party following the alliance.
On Wednesday, Kumaraswamy also took part in the protest by the BJP against the Siddaramaiah government over the Cauvery water sharing issue. The Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC) told Karnataka to release 3000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from September 28 to October 15. The Congress government will challenge the order in the Supreme Court.
