Karnataka announces compensation package worth Rs 1,610 crore for farmers, workers affected by lockdown

The Karnataka government has announced compensation for farmers and workers in the state, amounting to Rs 1610 crore.

Chief minister BS Yediyurappa said on Wednesday that the state will offer compensation to farmers growing flowers, fruits and vegetables, to auto and taxi drivers, for barbers and washermen, as well as weavers and building workers.

The state will also offer waiver of electricity bill payments to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for two months.

Here are some of the key compensations announced:

State to give compensation of Rs 25,000 for one hectare to flower growers

Government to announce relief package to fruit and vegetable farmers

Government to provide one time compensation of Rs 5000 each to 60,000 washermen, and 2,30,000 barbers

Government to give one-time compensation of Rs 5000 each to 7.75 lakh auto and taxi drivers

Government to waive electricity bills of MSMEs for two months

Incentives for electricity consumers for timely payments

Electricity connection to not be disconnected until June 30 for those who have not paid balance amount of electricity bills

Government announces Weaver Samman Yojana, to deposit Rs 2,000 each in accounts of 54,000 handloom weavers

Government to transfer Rs 3,000 each to 15.8 lakh building workers. This is in addition to Rs 2,000 already transferred
