SC stays Karnataka HC's direction disqualifying JD(S) MLA, allows him to contest upcoming election

The SC stayed the disqualification of Janata Dal (Secular) MLA DC Gowrishankar Swamy from the Tumkur Rural constituency in Karnataka and allowed him to , contest the upcoming Assembly polls in the southern state. However Swamy will not be entitled to cast his vote on the floor of the House or in any of the committees where he is nominated as a member.

50% cap on reservation should be lifted, reiterates Rahul Gandhi

"Modi only speaks about OBCs, but will not release the data (2011 census' caste based OBC categorisation data) Modi only wants OBC votes... Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released the third list of 10 candidates for Karnataka polls. It has announced to field Mahesh Tenginakai from Hubli-Dharwad Central, the seat held by Jagadish Shettar, former senior BJP leader who joined the Congress party today.

Cash arrived in helicopter, alleges Karnataka Congress leader

Senior Congress leader Vinay Kumar Sorake on Monday alleged that a bag containing huge amount of cash has arrived in a helicopter in which Tamil Nadu BJP President and state BJP election in-charge Annamalai landed in Udupi. Sorake, the Congress candidate from Kaup constituency said the party has informed the election officials about the matter. The BJP could win the last elections from the coastal district with the help of false political propaganda and it will not work this time, he added.

Karnataka minister and BJP leader V Somanna filed his nomination from the Varuna Assembly constituency. Karnataka CM Basavaraja Bommai accompanied him in the roadshow and during nomination.
