In the 2016 Assembly elections, Kottarakkara was won by Adv. P.Aisha Potty of KECB.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Adv:P.Aisha Potty of CPIM.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Adv. P.Aisha Potty garnered 83443 votes, securing over 55.44 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 42632 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 28.32 percent.

The constituency polled 150513 votes in the 2016 Kerala assembly polls with a voter turnout of 75.04 percent.

The Kottarakkara constituency has a literacy level of 93.77 percent.

A total of 9 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
