Liquor flows from taps of a Kerala residential complex, says report
Feb 5, 2020 4:53 AM

Excise officials have found themselves in a spot after liquor started reeking from the water taps inside a residential building in Kerala, reported Manorama Online.

Residents of Solomon’s Avenue Flat in Chalakudy have lodged complaints after a liquor disposal attempt by officials contaminated the nearby well used for water by the flat residents, the report added.

The drama unfolded after the 18 families residing in the flat discovered liquor, instead of water coming out of their taps, the report said. ‘Their search led them to a bunch of excise sleuths whose attempt to destroy seized liquor had gone horribly wrong,’ said the report.

The officials had seized 6,000 litres of unlawfully stored liquor from a nearby bar six years ago, the report said. They dug a pit in the premise and poured into it the content inside the liquor bottles after the court gave the go-ahead to destroy the liquor, the report added.

The poured liquor later seeped into the nearby well contaminating the water. This water from the well was pumped into the tank of the flat leading to all the troubles, the report said.

With less than 24 hours left for Sunday's swearing-in ceremony of Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi Chief Minister for the third successive term, preparations were on in full swing at the historic Ramlila Maidan. While Kejriwal and the ground have a special connection, the event is even more special for both -- the city and the party. It was from here that the 51-year-old had announced his entry into politics during the Anna Hazare-led India Against Corruption movement. The ground is under the jurisdiction of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation. The preparations, however, are being done by the Delhi government, NDMC and the Public Works Department. Setting up of chairs to establishing mobile toilets and water facilities are in the final stage. AAP Delhi unit chief Gopal Rai will visit the Ramlila ground later in the day to assess the preparedness.
