Lok Sabha election results 2019: Mulayam Singh Yadav wins Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 94,000 votes

Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav has won the Mainpuri seat by defeating his BJP candidate Prem Singh Shakya with a margin of over 94,000 votes.

Yadav defeated Shakya by 94,389 votes, the Election Commission's website said. While Yadav polled 5,24926 votes, his rival Shakya received 4,30,537 votes. In 2014, the seat was won by SP's Tej Pratap Yadav.

The voting was held on April 23, 2019, in Mainpuri. In the previous elections, Yadav beat Shatrughan Singh Chauhan of BJP by receiving 59.60 percent of the votes.

Yadav has served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice — from 1989 to 1991, from 1993 to 1995, and from 2003 to 2007. He has been elected to the state assembly eight times since 1967.

Mainpuri is one of the constituencies in 80-seat Uttar Pradesh. The constituency's Lok Sabha seat is unreserved. There are only two candidates contesting for the seat in this constituency.
