Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Moorthy V of ADMK.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Sudharsanam S garnered 122082 votes, securing over 45.43 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 15253 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 5.68 percent.

The constituency polled 268760 votes in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly polls with a voter turnout of 68.51 percent.

The Madavaram constituency has a literacy level of 83.82 percent.A total of 16 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
