The Maharashtra Police on Tuesday arrested Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Narayan Rane for his 'slap' remark against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Two FIRs were registered against Rane under sections 153 and 505 of IPC at Chaturshringi Police Station of Pune city, following a complaint by Yuva Sena.
Earlier in the day, Rane moved the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of FIRs against him over his remarks against Thackeray, ANI reported.
Rane has sparked off a row over his remarks about slapping Thackeray for what he claimed as the latter's ignorance of the year of India's independence. Rane had said, "It is shameful that the chief minister does not know the year of independence. He leaned back to enquire about the count of years of independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given (him) a tight slap."

Rane's remarks drew sharp reactions from Shiv Sena. A group of Shiv Sena workers was seen pelting stones at the Bharatiya Janata Party office in Nashik and raised slogans against Rane.
