End protest and come for talks: Tomar to agitating farmers at Jantar Mantar
With a group of farmers reaching Jantar Mantar here to protest against the three new farm laws, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday urged them to leave the path of agitation and come for talks. Tomar said farmers across the country have favoured the three farm laws. After getting special permission from Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal, a group of 200 farmers reached Jantar Mantar -- adjacent to the Parliament Complex -- in central Delhi to protest against the Centre's three contentious farm laws amid the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. They have got permission to protest till August 9 amid heavy security.

Pegasus snooping story "concocted, fabricated, evidence-less": BJP
The BJP on Thursday claimed that the story on the alleged snooping through Israeli spyware Pegasus is "concocted, fabricated and evidence-less" and that the new reports based on it call for "defamation". Union minister and BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi cited reports to claim that Amnesty International, the human rights group associated with Pegasus Project, has denied the existence of a list of potential targets of the alleged snooping.

Lok Sabha adjourned till Friday amid continued protests by Opposition
The Lok Sabha proceedings were repeatedly adjourned on Thursday amid sloganeering by Opposition members over various issues, including three recent farm laws. When the House re-assembled at 4 pm after the repeated adjournments, the uproarious scenes continued even as Bhartruhari Mahtab, who was in the Chair, asked the protesting members to go back to their seats.However, the Opposition members did not relent, forcing the Chair to adjourn the proceedings for the day. The Lok Sabha will meet at 11 am on Friday.

Road ministry built 13,327km of highways in FY21: Gadkari
The Road Transport and Highways ministry has constructed 13,327 km of National Highways in 2020-21, which works out to about 37 km per day, Parliament was informed on Thursday. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Gadkari said to mitigate COVID-19 pandemic effect, his ministry took initiatives under Atmanirbhar Bharat and provided several COVID-19 relief measures to contractors, concessionaires and consultants, including extension of time for 3-9 months.

Protesting farmer leaders say they suspect govt snooping on them
Farmer leaders protesting against the Centre's contentious farm laws on Thursday said they suspect that they were being snooped on by the government using Israeli software Pegasus. "It is an unethical government. We suspect that our numbers are also on list of those being snooped on," farmer leader Shiv Kumar Kakka said. "The government is behind the snooping. That's clear and the issue is gaining traction. We know that they are keeping an eye on us too," he alleged.

Financial bids for Air India likely to be received by September 15:Minister
Financial bids for Air India are likely to be received from qualified interested bidders (QIBs) by September 15 this year, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh said on Thursday. The Centre had invited Expression of Interests (EoIs) for Air India on January 27, 2020. The last date of submission -- after multiple extensions due to COVID-19 pandemic -- of EoIs was December 14, 2020. "Multiple EoIs were received by Transaction Advisor. The EoIs were evaluated by the Transaction Advisor for selection of QIBs. Request for Proposal (RFP) along with draft Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) have been shared with QIBs by the Transaction Advisor on March 30, 2021, for submission of financial bids," Singh stated.

TMC MPs tear papers as Vaishnaw reads statement in Rajya Sabha on snooping
Opposition TMC MPs on Thursday tore papers and flung them into the air, throwing the Rajya Sabha into bedlam as IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw read a statement on the alleged snooping using an Israeli company spyware Pegasus. TMC and other opposition party members rushed into the well of the House as Vaishnaw was called to make a statement over the issue.They shouted slogans and tore papers that appeared to be copies of the statement that the minister was to make. As papers were flung into the air, the minister could not complete his statement and instead laid a copy of it on the table of the House

Lok Sabha proceedings adjourned till 4pm amid opposition uproar
Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the third time on Thursday following sloganeering by opposition members over various issues. As the House reassembled at 2 PM, Bhartruhari Mahtab, who was in the Chair, asked the protesting members to go back to their respective seats and engage in discussion.As they did not relent, the House was adjourned till 4 PM. Earlier, the House was adjourned till 12 PM and then till 2 PM after Opposition members resorted to sloganeering over a range of issues including demand to rollback three farm fills and the Pegasus snooping controversy.

Aero sports accidents claimed the lives of three persons in the last 10 years: Minister
Three persons have died in five accidents during aero sports activities in the last 10 years, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh said on Thursday. In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Singh said: "As reported by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), there have been five accidents involving aero sports in India during the last ten years." The minister said two accidents involving microlight planes have taken place, killing two people during the last 10 years. He added that three accidents involving glider have taken place, killing one person during the last 10 years. All aero sports activities are not regulated, Singh noted. "However, DGCA issues certificate of registration for balloons, gliders, powered hang-gliders and microlights," he stated. Aero sports have considerable potential to boost tourism in the country, he mentioned. "Aero Sports are largely being undertaken by private entities at Mysuru in Karnataka, Phagwada in Punjab, Mussoorie in Uttarakhand, Lonavala in Maharashtra, Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Shillong in Meghalaya, Panchgani in Madhya Pradesh and Goa," he stated.
