In the 2016 Assembly elections, Patharpratima was won by Samir Kumar Jana of CPIM.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Samir Kumar Jana of TMC.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Samir Kumar Jana garnered 107595 votes, securing over 50.85 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 13793 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 6.52 percent.

The constituency polled 212687 votes in the 2016 West Bengal assembly polls with a voter turnout of 89.8 percent.

The Patharpratima constituency has a literacy level of 78.57 percent.

A total of 5 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
