Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tributes to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on his 28th death anniversary.
“Tributes to former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary,” Modi tweeted.
Modi’s gesture comes days after the Prime Minister had targeted Congress president Rahul Gandhi during a poll rally in Uttar Pradesh.
“Your father (Rajiv Gandhi) was termed Mr Clean by his courtiers, but his life ended as ‘bhrashtachari’ no 1 (corrupt number 1),” Modi had said at the BJP rally in Pratapgarh.
Apart from his remarks against Rajiv, Modi had also accused the Gandhi family of using warship INS Viraat for personal vacation when Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a suicide bomber during an election rally in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur in 1991.
