Puducherry Election Result 2021 LIVE: Djeacoumar C of AINRC wins Mangalam constituency

Djeacoumar C of All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) won in the Mangalam assembly constituency, defeating Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) S. Kumaravel. He won with a margin of 2,751 votes.

While Djeacoumar C (winner) had 16,600 votes, S. Kumaravel (who came second) had 14,047 votes, the data available on the ECI website showed.

Mangalam is an Assembly constituency in the Pondicherry district, in the Pondicherry region of Puducherry.

The Mangalam constituency went to polls on April 6, 2021.

The assembly seat is reserved for the General category.

In the 2016 Assembly elections, Mangalam was won by S.V. Sugumaran of AINRC.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by C. Djeacoumar of INC.

In the 2016 assembly polls, S.V. Sugumaran garnered 13955 votes, securing over 44.61 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 5563 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 17.78 percent.

The constituency polled 31294 votes in the 2016 Puducherry assembly polls with a voter turnout of 89.85 percent.

The Mangalam constituency has a literacy level of 85.44 percent.

A total of 15 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
