Rajasthan Assembly Election 2018: Farmers' distress may hurt BJP's prospects
Dec 4, 2018 1:47 PM

Addressing his final rally in Jaipur before Rajasthan goes to the polls on December 7, Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday said the BJP will snatch victory from Congress' hands.

Counting various scandals made under the Congress-led UPA tenure, Modi on Tuesday mentioned accomplishments made under the BJP tenure and asked people to vote a party that can give a promising future to their children.

As the poll campaign for the Assembly polls in Rajasthan reached a crescendo, opposition Congress is hopeful that the party will return to power.

The BJP, on the other hand, is trying to highlight the work done by chief minister Vasundhara Raje in the state and PM Modi at the Centre. They have even replaced 43 sitting MLAs.

One of the biggest issues in the Rajasthan elections is farmer’s distress. The Congress claimed that there have been over a hundred farmers' suicides during Raje's tenure, a charge the BJP denies.

CNBC-TV18 travelled to Khairali village in Hadoti region which covers 17 assembly seats. Farmers here expressed anger at not being able to get the right price for their garlic crop. From Rs 80-200 a kilo till about three years ago farmers today selling garlic for anything between Rs 2 and 32 per kg.

The Congress has also targeted the ruling party over demonetisation saying this is a government which works only for the big corporates.
