Tata Group's electoral arm spends about Rs 600 crore in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, says report

Tata Group's electoral trust is learnt to have spent Rs 500-600 crore in the 17th Lok Sabha elections, a spike of 20 times since the last Lok Sabha elections in 2014, the Business Standard reported.

Of the total disbursement, Rs 220 crore came from the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the software company had reported in its March quarter results.

In an official filling by the Progressive Electoral Trust, the Tata Group's election funding vehicle, it disbursed Rs 25.11 crore to political parties in the financial year 2014-15.

The biggest chunk of the funding, an estimate of Rs 300-350 crore has been disbursed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while Congress received about Rs 50 crore, the report said.

The rest of the funds were reported to be divided among Trinamool Congress (TMC), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and the National Congress Party, Business Standard said.

The Indian Army Mountaineering Expedition Team claimed to have seen a huge footprint of mythical character Yeti near Makalu Base camp in Nepal on April 9. During an expedition, the team found footprints measuring 32x15 inches, which they claimed are of the Yeti, the Abominable Snowman. According to Nepali folklore, the Yeti is a mythical ape-like creature that resides in the Himalayas, Central Asia and Siberia. The beast is taller and larger than a human being. The expedition team also claimed that Yeti had been spotted earlier at the Makalu-Barun National Park.
