In the 2016 Assembly elections, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar was won by Sivakumar P @ Thayagam Kavi of DMK.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Neelakandan. V of ADMK.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Sivakumar P @ Thayagam Kavi garnered 61744 votes, securing over 45.25 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 3322 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 2.43 percent.

The constituency polled 136487 votes in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly polls with a voter turnout of 63.49 percent.

The Thiru Vi Ka Nagar constituency has a literacy level of 90.33 percent.

A total of 23 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
