The Communist Party of India's (CPI) candidate Balachandran has won the Thrissur assembly seat in Kerala, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Suresh Gopi.
Thrissur is an Assembly constituency in the Thrissur district, in the Cochin region of Kerala. The Thrissur constituency went to the polls on April 6, 2021.

In the 2016 Assembly elections, Thrissur was won by Adv.V S Sunilkumar of CPI. Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Adv.Therambil Ramakrishnan of INC.
In the 2016 assembly polls, Adv. V S Sunilkumar garnered 53664 votes, securing over 42.19 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 6987 votes. In percentage terms, the victory margin was 5.49 percent.
The constituency polled 127238 votes in the 2016 Kerala assembly polls with a voter turnout of 73.82 percent. The Thrissur constituency has a literacy level of 95.32 percent. A total of 10 candidates stood in the 2016 elections.
