In its new strategy, e-commerce giant Amazon India has launched a programme to manage the business-to-business (B2B) inventory supply and management of neighbourhood kirana stores, the Business Standard reported.

In its initial phase, Amazon has launched the programme in in three cities in Karnatsaka and will take the initiative pan-India eventually.

“Presently, the company has launched the project in three cities in Karnataka — Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Tumakuru. Amazon has consolidated everything under the Amazon Distribution marketplace. Retailers and kirana store owners can order online, and products are delivered to their doorstep the following day,” the Business Standard said citing sources.

Amazon Distribution, which handles the B2B business comprising the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and other retail products will expand the business pan India after the pilot test in the three cities in Karnataka turns out to be successful, the report said, adding that the e-tailer will also offer other products such as goods and services tax (GST) invoices, competitive rates and managing inventory.

The e-commerce company is also running another pilot test in which it deploys B2B executives on the ground. The executives will reach out to retailers and small business holders asking them to order their inventory from Amazon Distribution division, the report said.

2020 has been a brutal year for businesses, so much so that the volume of bankruptcies this year has surpassed that of 2008. From the travel and hotel space to the energy sector, businesses across industries suffered for months as the COVID-19-induced lockdown put brakes on economic activities across the world. As per S&P Global Market Intelligence, 610 firms have filed for bankruptcies as of December 13, the highest since 2012. Retailers like J.C. Penney, Neiman Marcus, and J.Crew, car rental giant Hertz, mall operator CBL & Associates Properties are some of the names that have been listed in Fortune’s list of ‘14 of the biggest bankruptcies of 2020'. The 14 bankruptcies happen to be from the US as the valuations of liabilities remain higher than those of others. Here’s a look at these companies and their liabilities, as mentioned by Fortune:
