Tomb Raider is getting a fresh take, courtesy of “Fleabag” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Amazon.com Inc ( AMZN ) confirmed it is publishing the next Tomb Raider video game. It is also developing a live-action TV show with Waller-Bridge set to write.
According to Kotaku, the company confirmed the news during Amazon's ( AMZN ) Upfront event in New York City on May 14.
Amazon ( AMZN ) ordered a full season of the show.
Amazon ( AMZN ) and MGM Studios head Jen Salke described it as an "epic" series with global scope.
Rumors swirled in January 2023 about Waller-Bridge being involved in a Tomb Raider series.

Waller-Bridge, who last starred in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” expressed her excitement: "If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she'd explode."
“Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators,” she added. “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can't wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
A release date and casting details remain unknown. Amazon's ( AMZN ) project is part of a broader effort to create a connected Tomb Raider universe. Netflix Inc ( NFLX ) is also developing an animated series set for release later this year.
Following the successes of “Fallout” on Amazon ( AMZN ), The “Super Mario. Bros” animated movie from Nintendo and HBO’s “The Last of Us”, it’s clear that video game adaptations are a growing trend.
Tomb Raider originated as an action-adventure video game series from UK-based video game developer Core Design in 2001. Previous adaptations include comics, novels and live-action films starring Angelina Jolie.
