Apple announces 'Scary Fast' event on October 30, M3 iMac and MacBooks expected
Oct 25, 2023 3:24 AM

Amidst all the rumours of a new Apple product announcement, the tech giant has finally unveiled the date for its next event. And don’t hold your breath for a “Good morning” from Tim Cook for this one.

Apple, on Tuesday night, shared the invite for its “Scary fast” online event, which is to take place at 5 am PT on October 30. From the looks of it, it is expected to primarily be a Mac event. The Apple logo on the invite animates and turns into the Finder icon found on macOS. The name “Scary fast” also hints at a possible M3 chip-based release.

“I believe M3 series MacBook Pro will be Oct 30th media event's focus,” Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared on X (formerly Twitter). The reason, as per Kuo, is to boost the MacBook shipments, which saw a decline in 2023.

“I believe this is why Apple may prefer to launch the M3 series MacBook Pro even when its production volume is still low rather than continue to ship the M2 series MacBook Pro. Theoretically, the M3 should offer a more significant boost in computing power,” he added.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier in August that Apple has been testing M3 Max and M3 Pro 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. Apple has also been reportedly planning an M3 iMac for a while. According to Gurman, no major changes can be expected apart from the chip upgrade.

Given that Apple is hosting an event and not just going with a press release, it is likely that the announcement is going to be significant and at this point, the coming of the third Apple silicon seems quite obvious. However, nothing is for certain until Apple says so.

In India, the event can be watched at 5.30 am on October 31. It will stream live on Apple’s official website and on its YouTube channel.

Apple will be posting its quarterly results on November 2 and this would be the first time since 2018 that the company would do so — usually the financials are released around late October.
