Aptarro Appoints David Smith as Chief Technology Officer to Advance Reimbursement Intelligence Platform
Aug 5, 2026 7:13 AM

Veteran platform builder from UserTesting, R1 RCM, VistPay joins to lead engineering, architecture, and security as Aptarro embeds intelligent decision support across provider and partner workflows

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Aptarro, a healthcare technology company defining reimbursement intelligence, today announced the appointment of David P. Smith as Chief Technology Officer. Smith will lead the company's technology strategy, engineering, architecture, security, and infrastructure as Aptarro expands its platform and brings intelligent decision support deeper into provider and partner workflows.

Smith joins Aptarro as the company advances the next generation of revenue cycle technology: one where payer behavior across the network strengthens the intelligence behind the next decision. Powered by one of the industry's most comprehensive claims and payer behavior libraries and embedded at the point of decision, Aptarro's platform surfaces meaningful patterns, strengthens decision logic, and helps healthcare organizations act before the same problems repeat. Smith will own the technical foundation required to deliver that intelligence securely, reliably, and at scale.

"Reimbursement intelligence only matters if it performs in the real world of healthcare, at the point of decision," said Jeff Diamond, Chief Executive Officer of Aptarro. "David has spent his career building innovative platforms and the teams behind them in healthcare revenue cycle, payments, and high-volume enterprise SaaS. His leadership will help accelerate our vision into technology that healthcare organizations can trust in production, not just admire in theory."

Smith brings more than 25 years of experience developing highly available technology across healthcare, payments, financial services, legal technology, and SaaS. Most recently, he served as Chief Technology Officer at UserTesting, where he led engineering and technology infrastructure. His previous leadership roles include R1 RCM, VisitPay, Zapproved, Wolters Kluwer, ACTIVE Network, and ServiceU. Throughout his career, Smith has built global technology organizations and scaled mission-critical platforms supporting complex, high-volume operations — experience that maps directly to the demands of healthcare reimbursement, where accuracy, availability, and security are non-negotiable.

"Healthcare does not need another system that points out a problem and leaves the work behind. It needs intelligence that recommends the next move and gets smarter from the outcome," said Smith. "Aptarro has more than 40 years of reimbursement expertise, a genuine data moat, and the vision to build that kind of embedded intelligence at scale. I'm excited to help turn that vision into technology providers and partners can rely on."

Smith's appointment marks another step in Aptarro's long-term strategy to evolve from trusted revenue cycle software into a reimbursement intelligence platform. Under his leadership, Aptarro will continue investing in scalable architecture, interoperability, agentic artificial intelligence, security, and engineering excellence — supporting intelligence delivered through Aptarro's own applications, embedded within partner platforms, and powering the next generation of AI-driven revenue cycle teams.
