BlackBerry QNX Expands Support For AMD Platforms, Enhancing Robotic And Embedded Applications
Mar 11, 2025 6:22 AM

BlackBerry division, QNX, disclosed an expanded collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices to enhance performance in robotic systems and embedded devices.

The new portfolio includes the QNX Software Development Platform (SDP) 8.0 for AMD Kria SOMs, AMD Zynq UltraScale+, and Versal adaptive SoC platforms, enabling developers to run high-performance applications on the QNX Operating System (OS) and QNX Hypervisor.

The expanded support for AMD devices highlights QNX’s commitment to offering solutions for industrial, medical, automotive, and robotic applications.

By leveraging the real-time operating system (RTOS) capabilities of QNX, this partnership ensures systems meet strict timing constraints, essential for embedded software performance.

John Wall, Chief Operating Officer and Head of Product, Engineering and Services at QNX, said “Embedded real-time workloads often involve computationally intensive tasks, such as running deep learning models for autonomous navigation or object detection. QNX SDP 8.0 optimizes the use of multicore processors, hardware accelerators, and GPUs to manage these demands efficiently.”

Yesterday, QNX unveiled its QNX General Embedded Development Platform (GEDP), designed to expedite the creation of high-performance, scalable, and secure embedded systems.

George Chowdhury, Robotics Industry Analyst at ABI Research said, “As industries increasingly demand more flexible, secure, and high-performance solutions, this platform has the potential to address critical pain points such as development complexity, safety certification, and time-to-market pressures.”

”Embedded developers will be able to leverage QNX’s platform to accelerate the development of their mission-critical systems and build the next generation smart, connected embedded technologies.”

Last month, the company's QNX disclosed a multi-year initiative with Pi Square Technologies, which entails training thousands of software engineers across India to meet the rising global demand for skilled embedded systems developers.

Investors can gain exposure to the stock via SPDR S&P Kensho Future Security ETF ( FITE ) .

Price Action: BB shares are up 0.95% at $4.23 premarket at the last check Tuesday.
