Graphic design platform Canva launched a new suite of AI-powered design tools called 'Magic Studio' on Wednesday, October 4, as part of its 10th-anniversary celebrations. According to the company, “Magic Studio is the world’s most comprehensive AI-design platform,” and is aimed to make content creation more accessible to everyone.
Melanie Perkins, Co-Founder and CEO of Canva, spoke of the company's journey, stating, "A decade ago, Canva set out to empower the world to design by simplifying a complex and fragmented design ecosystem. As we go into the next decade of our journey, we’re incredibly excited to be taking a massive leap forward with the launch of Magic Studio — the first all-in-one suite of design AI tools created to supercharge the way teams create and scale visual content."
According to Canva, Magic Studio offers a range of features, including Magic Switch for instant format conversion, Magic Media for text-to-image and text-to-video capabilities, Magic Design for effortless content creation, and Brand Voice for on-brand copywriting assistance. Additionally, Magic Studio includes features like Magic Morph, Magic Grab, and Magic Expand to enhance design possibilities.
Magic Studio follows the launch of Canva’s enterprise-focused Visual Suite in September 2022 and the introduction of new AI and marketer tools at the Create event earlier this year. Notably, Canva said it has seen more than 65 million new users over the past year, a milestone that previously took eight years to achieve. Currently, Canva boasts 16 million paying subscribers and a user base of over 150 million worldwide, with its AI-powered design products being used over three billion times.
Canva is also introducing Canva Shield, a new set of safety, privacy, and security safeguards for the platform intended to stop its AI from being exploited to create harmful or improper content, along with its new AI suite. Canva Shield gives team admins complete control over how Magic Studio products are enabled and utilised throughout the workplace and offers free AI indemnification for Canva enterprise clients.
In a nod to the creative community, Canva has committed $200 million in content and AI royalties over the next three years through its 'Creator Compensation Program.' Canva also claims that this programme compensates Canva Creators who contribute their content to train the company's AI models while also providing creators the choice to opt out if they wish.
