10:59 AM EDT, 04/01/2024 (MT Newswires) -- European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts kicked off the week slightly higher in late Monday morning trading, rising 0.11% to 1,375.19 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index.
From continental Europe, the gainers were led by semiconductor company Sequans Communications ( SQNS ) and medical-device maker Edap (EDAP), which rose 4% and 1.1%, respectively. They were followed by hotel booking site Trivago ( TRVG ) and biotech firm BioNTech (BNTX), which were up 1% and 0.8%, respectively.
The decliners from continental Europe were led by biopharmaceutical companies Cellectis ( CLLS ) and DBV Technologies ( DBVT ) , which fell 5.5% and 2.3%, respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical company Grifols ( GRFS ) and telecommunications operator Telefonica ( TEF ) , which dropped 1.7% and 1.1%, respectively.
From the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by biopharmaceutical company Mereo Biopharma ( MREO ) and mining company BHP Group ( BHP ) , which increased 1.5% and 1.4%, respectively. They were followed by oil and gas companies Shell (SHEL) and BP (BP), which were up 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively.
The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biopharmaceutical companies Biodexa Pharmaceuticals ( BDRX ) and NuCana ( NCNA ) , which tumbled 22% and 9.5%, respectively. They were followed by biotech firm Autolus Therapeutics ( AUTL ) and biopharmaceutical company Adaptimmune (ADAP), which lost 6.4% and 6.3%, respectively.
