SOMERVILLE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Formlabs, the largest supplier of professional SLA and SLS 3D printing systems in the world, today announced a series of changes to its Board of Directors and also announced Dan Riccio, Apple's former Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, as a strategic advisor. Riccio is also making an investment in Formlabs alongside Board member Rob Willett. This series of announcements positions Formlabs for a new phase of growth and technology leadership.

"Dan spent a career building some of the most beloved hardware products in the world, at an enormous scale, and he did it by obsessing over details most executives don’t care about," said Maxim Lobovsky, co-founder and CEO of Formlabs. "As we scale Formlabs into the next generation of manufacturing hardware, learning from Dan is going to make our team stronger and our products better. We're thrilled to have him as an advisor and as an investor in what we're building."

Decades Shaping Apple’s Hardware, Now Advising and Investing in Formlabs

Riccio led Apple’s Product Design and Hardware Engineering Organizations for decades, overseeing the development of all Apple’s hardware products, including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. In his new role, Riccio will advise Formlabs' leadership team on product development, design rigor, and operational scaling as the company expands its footprint in industrial and professional 3D printing.

"Formlabs has quietly built one of the most complete hardware, software, and materials platforms I've seen outside of a handful of the world's best consumer companies," said Riccio. "The attention to detail in how these systems are engineered, and the ambition to make industrial-grade manufacturing accessible, is exactly the kind of problem I want to spend my time on. I'm excited to invest in that vision and to work with the team as they build it out."

Alongside his advisory role, Riccio is making a personal investment in Formlabs, joining board member Rob Willett, former CEO of Cognex Corporation, who is increasing his own stake in the company.

"I said when I joined the board that Formlabs was uniquely positioned to lead the next era of digital manufacturing," said Willett. "Everything I’ve seen since has convinced me to lean in further."

Max Lobovsky to Serve as Chairman; Dávid Lakatos Named President and Joins Board of Directors

Formlabs also announced that, as part of the transition, Lobovsky will assume the role of Chairman of the Board, succeeding co-founder Natan Linder, who is stepping down from the board after fifteen years of service and will remain a strategic advisor to the company. Dávid Lakatos, the company's Chief Product Officer and one of its earliest employees, has been named President and will join the Board of Directors. Lakatos has led Formlabs' product organization for more than a decade, shaping the Formlabs SLA and SLS hardware, materials, and software portfolio from its earliest Kickstarter-funded printer through its current industry-defining professional systems.

“Natan joined me in founding this company, betting on the idea and betting on me before almost anyone else. He has contributed in many ways as a cofounder and board member and will continue to contribute as an advisor,” said Lobovsky. ”Dávid joined just a couple of years into the history of the company, and I think of him as a co-founder as well. He has been instrumental in building almost every aspect of the company across almost every product and development of our long-term strategy.”

In addition, Nadia Shouraboura, who has served on the Formlabs board since 2022, will take on the role of Lead Director. As the former head of worldwide supply chain and fulfillment at Amazon and a member of its executive leadership team, Shouraboura brings deep experience scaling global operations — expertise the board is elevating as Formlabs expands its manufacturing footprint and grows its industrial 3D printing platform worldwide.

Formlabs builds the tools that make it possible for anyone to bring their ideas to life. Headquartered in Somerville, Mass., with offices across the globe, Formlabs is the largest professional 3D printing company founded since the 1980s, with annual revenues surpassing $250 million. Formlabs customers have printed more than 500 million parts across industries ranging from engineering and manufacturing to healthcare and consumer products. Formlabs’ products include SLA and SLS 3D printers, post-processing solutions, best-in-class software, and over 45 materials to suit dozens of applications. In 2024, Formlabs was named one of the world’s Most Innovative Companies in Manufacturing by Fast Company. To learn more, visit www.formlabs.com.
