HFCL on Saturday, October 28, informed the stock exchanges that it launched its 1728-intermittently-bonded ribbon cable at the India Mobile Congress 2023 in Delhi.

The company said this would meet the growing demand of the high fibre count cables from data centres and also boost 5G network infrastructure.

"Our revolutionary yet sustainable 1728-fibre IBR cable will significantly help capitalise demand from data centres and contribute to national fiberisation priorities under BharatNet, NHAI programme and rollout of 4G, 5G networks by telecom operators and technology enterprises," said Mahendra Nahata, the managing director of HFCL.

The company said the core technology behind the 1728-high fibre count IBR cables is individual intermittently bonded ribbons, each made up 12 optical fibres that are securely bonded at specific intervals along their lengths. "Unlike traditional flat ribbons, IBR Cables offer a unique blend of space efficient design with a fully backwardcompatible cable design, allowing seamless upgradation of optical infrastructures and further making it a readily deployable innovation in the field of optical fibre technology," the company said.

Last month, the domestic telecom gear manufacturer bagged a Rs 1,015 crore order from the Madhya Pradesh Jal Nigam for providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.

On September 11, HFCL said the company and its material subsidiary HTL Ltd clinched a lucrative contract worth approximately Rs 82.60 crore. The deal involved supplying high-quality optical fibre cables to one of India's leading domestic telecom service providers, according to a stock exchange filing.

HFCL Ltd's shares ended 1.7% higher at ₹64.45 apiece on Friday, October 27.
