You know how, with some laptops, you just do not have to think at all while using them. The HP Envy x360 is one such laptop.
The Envy x360 is a 2-in-1 laptop that can be used in several different orientations. You can use it as a regular laptop, as a tablet and every other orientation in between. The review unit that I received from HP was a beautiful dark graphite colour with a matte finish, immediately making it stand out from the silver/grey laptops in the market. But that’s not it.
Powered by the Intel 13th Gen i7 processor, users would not have to think twice before picking up this 15.6-inch laptop from HP. It gives users the perfect balance between work and play. The laptop also comes with a stylus that can help you take notes, edit documents and more.
It runs on Windows 11 and offers facial recognition instead of a fingerprint sensor for secure login. While having both would have been nice, the facial recognition is fast enough and barely gives you time to think about having an alternative option.
A technology that HP refers to as AI IPS (Image Signal Processor) also gives you more security. It automatically locks your screen when you move away from it and logs you back in when you come back to it. This feature is definitely a big win for people like me who constantly worry about whether they locked their screens before leaving their desks at work.
The Full HD multi-touch OLED display can get really bright for even comfortable outdoor usage under the bright Sun. However, the screen might give out some glare at times depending on what angle you use it from — nothing that cannot be overlooked.
The display is also really good for binge-watching your favourite shows, with quite accurate and rich colour representation. The device is also IMAX certified and Marvel fans can take advantage of that with enhanced aspect ratio on select Marvel Studios and Pixar titles on Disney+.
The top-firing speakers also do not disappoint in this matter. They are loud, clear and crisp. I cannot be happier that the era of bottom-firing speakers on laptops is over. It was never a good idea to begin with, especially for people who keep their laptops on their beds while watching content.
Work, on the HP Envy x360, has also been seamless. My main concern with Windows laptops is usually the occasional lagging, taking a while to wake up from sleep and realise that it has to function, overheating and the battery life.
With this, I did not have to worry. Typing — which takes up about 90% of my day at work — was extremely comfortable, with the right amount of key travel and a very satisfying click with every key. The trackpad was equally satisfying to swipe my finger across with a decently sized surface area without wasting too much space on the chassis.
The battery on the HP Envy x360, I would say, lasted me close to six hours — could be less but definitely not more. The USB Type-C charger that comes with the laptop is quite light and easy to carry as compared to several other laptops on the market. HP claims that it can charge your laptop up to 50% in 30 minutes when it is shut down, but even while using the laptop, the charging speeds are pretty fast. The braided cable is a cherry on top. It also makes it easier because I don’t have to carry a separate charger for my phone.
For RAM, you get two options on the HP Envy x360 — 8GB and 16GB — and for storage, you can go as high as 1TB, if it fits your budget. It also comes with a great 5MP front-facing camera for those of you who have to take a lot of Zoom meetings. The picture quality on it is better than a lot of competitors in the price range.
Speaking of the price range, the HP Envy x360 15 is available at the starting price of ₹78,999 — not exactly budget, but not very expensive either. On top of that, it performs really well for that price.
In conclusion
This is a laptop that does everything. If you’re a college student or a young professional who often needs to use a tablet for taking notes or just planning things in general, this could be a great device for you. And you can spec it according to your budget without cutting very many corners.
But in case you are someone who needs more than just this for heavier workloads then do not settle with this one and get something that fits your requirement.
