01:09 PM EDT, 04/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Intel ( INTC ) said Monday its foundry business has been selected for the third phase of the US Department of Defense's Rapid Assured Microelectronics Prototypes - Commercial, or RAMP-C, program.
The chipmaker led the first phase and was also awarded the second phase, which established a commercial foundry ecosystem in the US. Financial details weren't disclosed.
The third phase ensues extensive test chips and multiple commercial and defense industrial base product prototype tapeouts of circuits based on Intel ( INTC ) 18A, using the new intellectual property and ecosystem tools that were designed during the first phase.
Kapil Wadhera, Intel ( INTC ) vice president for foundry services, said "this milestone reinforces our commitment to making our capabilities, including leading-edge technologies like Intel ( INTC ) 18A, available to a wider range of partners."
RAMP-C is a program aimed at building chipmaking ecosystem in the US by incentivizing the semiconductor industry.
