ISRO to launch Kalamsat and Microsat-R

In its first launch in 2019, ISRO will launch Kalamsat and Microsat-R on Jan 24 on board PSLV C44.

Polar satellite vehicle launch C44 (PSLV C44) will be the 46th flight of PSLV.

PSLV C44 will be launched from the first launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Center Shar, Sriharikota.

PSLV is a four stage launch vehicle with alternating solid and liquid stages. The PSLV for this mission is equipped with 2 strap-on configurations and is designated as PSLV-DL.

PSLV C44 is the first mission of PSLV-DL and is a new variant of PSLV.

Kalamsat is a communication satellite with a life span of two months developed by Students and Space Kidz India.

It costs about Rs 12 lakh and is the world's lightest and first ever 3D-printed satellite.

PSLV C44 is also carrying defence research and development org's M Microsat-R imaging satellite. It will be used to take high-resolution photos of the earth for defence research
