Popular instant messaging app WhatsApp will be available on all JioPhones starting September 20, Reliance Jio Infocomm said on Tuesday.
JioPhone, launched by Reliance Retail last year, is aimed at millions of low-paid Indians, currently caught between basic, calls-and-text devices and fancier smartphones.
JioPhone has now become the largest selling phone in India, according to Reliance Jio Infocomm. The company claims that out of every 10 phones sold in the sub-Rs 1,500 price-range, 8 are JioPhones.
Keeping its users in mind, the app will be made simple in order to provide a secure mode of communication, Reliance Jio Infocomm said in a statement. The new app makes it easy to record and send voice messages with just couple of taps on the keypad, it added.
JioPhone users can start using the app by simply verifying their phone number. WhatsApp will be available on the JioPhone AppStore starting September 10 and will be rolled out on all JioPhones by September 20, the company said.
