Meta could launch its generative AI chatbot — called “Gen AI Personas” internally — as soon as this Wednesday at the Meta Connect event, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. This is the same chatbot with multiple personalities that was reportedly being tested on Instagram around early June. According to the Journal, the chatbot is targeted towards a younger audience.
“According to internal chats the Journal viewed, the company has tested a ‘sassy robot’ persona inspired by Bender from Futurama and an overly curious ‘Alvin the Alien’ that one employee worried could imply the bot was made to gather personal information,” The Verge said in its report.
In June, tipster Alessandro Paluzzi shared a screenshot on X, suggesting that there could be up to 30 different personalities for users to choose from. The Verge also noted that the tech giant is even looking at enabling celebrities to make their own chatbots for their fans. While some have also been geared towards productivity like “coding and other tasks”.
Meta also released a commercial version of its open-source artificial intelligence model Llama in July, which serves as a free-of-cost alternative to pricey models sold by OpenAI and Google.
The tech giant is also allegedly working on a more powerful large language model to compete with OpenAI's current work with GPT-4, the model that powers ChatGPT and Bing. During Meta Connect, the company is also expected to discuss its metaverse project and the new Quest 3 headset.
