Pocketpair's monster-catching survival game, Palworld, has officially launched on Sony Group Corp. ( SONY )‘s PlayStation 5 in Japan, following a delayed release due to ongoing legal issues with Nintendo ARD (OTC:NTDOY).

The game, which debuted on PlayStation consoles last month in 68 countries and regions, initially left Japanese fans waiting for reasons that have sparked widespread speculation.

Many suspected that the delay was connected to Nintendo's ( NTDOF ) lawsuit against Pocketpair over alleged patent infringements.

“The PS5 version of Palworld is released today on the PS Store,” Pocketpair's social media team confirmed this morning.

Nintendo’s Lawsuit And Pocketpair's Response

In the midst of Palworld’s launch success, Nintendo ( NTDOF ) initiated legal action against Pocketpair, citing patent infringement.

While Nintendo ( NTDOF ) has not publicly disclosed the specific patents involved, this lawsuit appears to have influenced Palworld’s delayed entry into the Japanese PlayStation market.

“We are still unaware of which patents we have seemingly infringed,” Pocketpair stated.

A New Partnership With Krafton

In another major development for Palworld, Pocketpair has inked a partnership deal with Krafton, the parent company of PUBG Studios, to bring the game to mobile platforms, Eurogamer reported.

PUBG Studios is set to lead the development of Palworld’s mobile version, ensuring that its core elements are “faithfully reinterpreted and implemented,” according to a joint statement.

The mobile adaptation aims to capture the essence of what made the original Palworld such a success—its dynamic blend of monster collection, survival mechanics, and action-packed gameplay. With Krafton's pedigree in the mobile gaming market, fans are optimistic about the transition.
