Actor Scarlett Johansson has reportedly taken legal action against an AI app for using her name and likeness in an online advertisement without her permission.
An AI image-generating app called Lisa AI: 90s Yearbook & Avatar posted a 22-second ad on X (formerly Twitter), which featured an old clip of Johansson from the behind-the-scenes of her film Black Widow, Variety said in a report. The ad was reportedly posted on October 28 and has since been deleted.
Representatives of the actor confirmed with Variety that she is not associated with the app in any capacity.
According to Variety, the ad starts off with the clip and then AI avatars and then an AI-generated voice of Johansson’s starts talking and promoting the app.
Fine print under the ad also mentions that the images are produced by Lisa AI and that they have nothing to do with this person.
Last month, actor Tom Hanks also found himself in a similar spot where an AI-generated avatar of the actor was seen promoting “some dental plan”. While Hanks did not seem to have taken any legal action, he did bring this to light on Instagram to inform his followers that he had nothing to do with the promotion.
“BEWARE!! There’s a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me. I have nothing to do with it,” he wrote along with a screenshot from the said promotion
