Shawn Mechelke Joins Spire Global as General Manager of Weather & Climate

Weather and aviation technology leader to drive growth and innovation across Spire’s global weather business

VIENNA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Spire Global, Inc. ( SPIR ) (“Spire” or “the Company”), a global provider of space-based data, analytics and space services, has appointed Shawn Mechelke as its new General Manager of Weather & Climate, effective November 17, 2025.

Mechelke will lead the go-to-market and sales strategy, product roadmap, and global delivery of Spire’s weather and climate solutions, overseeing the Weather & Climate team including meteorologists and data scientists.

“Shawn shares Spire’s vision to harness space-based data to solve problems on Earth,” said Celia Pelaz, Chief Operating Officer at Spire. “His decades of experience growing and delivering mission-critical aviation and weather technologies, along with his leadership in data-driven innovation, will be essential as we expand the reach and impact of our Weather & Climate solutions.”

Mechelke brings more than 30 years of experience driving software, data, and operational growth across the aviation and weather sectors. He joins Spire from AFV Partners, where he served as President of the Aviation Vertical, leading product and commercial growth and overseeing portfolio companies including Aircraft Performance Group, RocketRoute, and Seattle Avionics.

Before joining AFV Partners, Mechelke held senior leadership roles at NAVBLUE, an Airbus company, and Schneider Electric/Telvent DTN, where he led commercial weather solutions and pioneered advanced aviation hazard forecasting technologies recognized with the Air Transport World Aviation Technology Achievement Award.

Mechelke holds a B.S. in Aeronautical Studies with a minor in Meteorology from the University of North Dakota and an MBA from Clayton State University. He also completed executive programs in Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and in International Business Management at UNC Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

He will be based out of the Company’s Boulder, Colorado office where the majority of the Company’s weather team is based and will report to Spire’s Chief Operating Officer Celia Pelaz.
