Social media platforms can't be arbiters of truth, says Mark Zuckerberg
May 28, 2020 12:55 PM

Social media platform Twitter continues to maintain that it will call out misleading content on its platform, but that is not strictly the view shared by rival Facebook's founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Speaking to CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin, Zuckerberg said social media platforms should not be arbiters of truth, or indulge in censorship of posts put out by politicians. However, he did concede that fake news must be taken down.

Zuckerberg also defended Facebook's decision to take down a video of Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro, where he claimed hydroxychloroquine is a cure for COVID-19.
