Developer intelligence platform unifies signals across code, tickets, and tools to reveal how AI is reshaping software development, and automate the busywork that slows teams down

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Span, the AI-native developer intelligence platform, today announced $25 million in Seed and Series A funding from Alt Capital, Craft Ventures, SV Angel, BoxGroup, and Bling Capital.

The round also includes over 100 founders, CTOs, and operators from companies like Slack, Notion, Rippling, and Square. Their participation reflects strong conviction from practitioners who’ve experienced the very challenges Span is solving.

Span was founded to solve a problem that intensifies as companies scale: as organizations grow, context gets buried, making it harder for engineering leaders to answer fundamental questions about where time is going and whether teams are investing in the right priorities.

This challenge has grown more urgent with the rise of AI in software development. While code is being written faster than ever, leaders are navigating this transformation without clear visibility into what’s changing or how AI is truly impacting development velocity and code quality.

"AI has rewritten how software gets built, but leaders still lack the tools to understand what's happening with clarity and evidence," said J Zac Stein, co-founder and CEO of Span. "We built Span to give teams that missing layer of understanding, and to give them back the time they spend manually maintaining it."

A New Approach to Developer Intelligence

Span unifies signals across code repositories, tickets, incidents, and development tools to provide engineering teams with holistic visibility into how work actually flows. The platform combines metrics, team surveys, and behavioral context to reveal the complete story of productivity and team health, not just isolated numbers.

Span's AI inference works with imperfect, real-world data to show where time is really going. Beyond visibility, Span creates leverage by automating time-consuming manual work: writing updates, attributing R&D for tax credits, and searching for answers.

Span partners closely with engineering leaders at companies including Ramp, Vanta, Carvana, Intercom, Braze, Writer, URBN, and ClassPass. These teams are using Span to lead AI transformation with evidence and maintain agility as they scale.

Measuring the Real Impact of AI Coding

In September 2025, Span launched span-detect-1, a proprietary model that helps teams measure the adoption and impact of AI-assisted coding across all AI tools. Unlike other platforms that rely on vendor data or surveys, Span detects AI-generated code at the chunk level and tracks it through the development lifecycle, providing verified measurement of AI's actual impact.

Looking Ahead

The funding will enable Span to deepen its capabilities that help organizations measure the impact and ROI of AI-augmented development, and build toward a future where the hardest questions about engineering teams and codebases can be answered in seconds rather than days. The company is focused on creating continuous, always-on context that keeps organizations aligned and informed, without the coordination overhead that typically accompanies growth.

About Span

Span is the AI-native developer intelligence platform bringing clarity to engineering organizations with a holistic, human-centered approach to developer productivity. World-class companies like Ramp, Vanta, Carvana, and Intercom use Span to get a complete picture of engineering impact and health, drive high performance, and make smarter business decisions.
