May 2, 2024 10:24 AM

Matthew Bromberg was appointed the new CEO of Unity Software Inc ( U ) , effective May 15, 2024, succeeding interim CEO Jim Whitehurst.

Bromberg expressed his excitement about joining Unity: “I look forward to working with [Whitehurst], the board, and the incredible people of Unity to provide the best integrated platform for creators to bring great games and experiences to their audiences globally while also helping accelerate the company’s revenue growth and profitability.”

Roelof Botha, who transitioned from executive chair of Unity’s board to independent director of the board, praised the new CEO.

“The board and the entire leadership team are confident that [Bromberg’s] proven leadership, customer-first mindset, and deep understanding of the dynamic gaming industry make him the right executive to lead Unity forward,” Botha said.

Botha also thanked Whitehurst for his interim leadership, acknowledging his role in steering Unity through strategic changes and positioning the company for long-term success.

Whitehurst had taken over as interim CEO after John Riccitiello‘s departure last October, following a controversial decision regarding Unity’s runtime fee, where developers would be charged each time their games were installed beyond certain thresholds.
