Aug 16 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened

lower on Friday as energy stocks fell, tracking declining crude

prices, while gains in mining shares kept overall losses in

check.

At 9:31 a.m. ET (13:31 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's

S&P/TSX composite index was down 40.78 points, or

0.18%, at 22,991.94.
