CANADA STOCKS-TSX opens higher as gold prices lift materials stocks

July 2 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened higher

on Thursday, lifted by the materials sector as gold prices

jumped after a disappointing U.S. jobs report tempered

expectations for interest rate hikes.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX Composite Index

was up 0.4% at 34,975.38 points.
