04:56 AM EDT, 09/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Crude oil prices rose early on Monday following a large Ukrainian drone attack targeting Russian oil infrastructure.
Brent crude at last look gained 0.3% to US$67.22/barrel and West Texas Intermediate crude climbed 0.4% to US$62.94/b. The Ukrainian drone attack overnight Sunday sparked a fire at the Kirishi oil refinery in northwest Russia, Reuters reported Monday, citing Russian officials. Ukraine also previously attacked the Primorsk oil export terminal.
"The attack suggests a growing willingness to disrupt international oil markets, which has the potential to add upside pressure on oil prices," Reuters quoted JPMorgan analysts led by Natasha Kaneva as saying.
Primorsk is capable of loading 1 million barrels per day of crude, and the Kirishi refinery can process about 355,000 b/d of Russian crude, equivalent to 6.4% of the country's total, the report said. The attacks on energy infrastructure brings upside risks to price forecasts, analysts said.
