Jun 9, 2025 9:44 AM

12:20 PM EDT, 06/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- European stock markets closed lower Monday as the Stoxx Europe 600 dropped 0.1%, Germany's DAX 40 fell 0.5%, the FTSE 100 decreased 0.1% and France's CAC 40 declined 0.2%.

The Swiss market remained closed for Whit Monday.

The joint committee on the free trade agreement between Switzerland and the European Union met last week to address challenges to mutual market access. Switzerland sought exemption from future EU safeguard measures, according to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

The European Central Bank is near the end of the cycle for interest-rate cuts, Reuters reported, citing Governing Council member and National Bank of Slovakia Governor Peter Kazimir.

Italian GDP growth will be entirely driven by domestic demand in 2025 and 2026, as net foreign demand is expected to contribute negatively, even with an assumed reduction in US trade policy uncertainty by late 2025, the Italian National Institute of Statistics said.

Private equity firm Advent made a 3.7 billion pound ($5 billion) takeover proposal for Spectris, a UK maker of precision and testing equipment and software, Bloomberg News reported. Spectris shares jumped 60% in London.
