European Equities Close Mixed in Tuesday Trading; Novo Nordisk, Pfizer Battle Over Metsera Heats Up
Nov 4, 2025 9:10 AM

11:59 AM EST, 11/04/2025 (MT Newswires) -- European stock markets closed mixed in Tuesday trading as the Stoxx Europe was down 0.30%, Germany's DAX declined 0.76%, the FTSE in London edged 0.14% higher, France's CAC fell 0.52%, and the Swiss Market Index rose 0.58%.

In corporate news, biopharmaceutical company Metsera said Tuesday it has received an amended acquisition proposal from Novo Nordisk that its board determined constitutes a "Superior Company Proposal" as defined under its existing merger agreement with Pfizer.

The revised proposal values Metsera at up to roughly $10.0 billion, or up to $86.20 per share, representing an approximate 159% premium to Metsera's closing price as of Sept. 19, the last trading day before the Pfizer deal was announced, the company said. Pfizer on Monday revised its own offer to $60 per share in cash, up from $47.50, while reducing the contingent value right to up to $10 per share in cash, down from $22.50, Metsera said.

Metsera said it notified Pfizer that it had deemed Novo Nordisk's amended proposal as a "Superior Company Proposal," triggering a two-day window for Pfizer to negotiate revised terms.

Pfizer did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.

Stellantis' Chrysler is recalling 320,065 electric vehicles over concerns that their high voltage batteries may fail internally and lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a report that emerged on its website on Tuesday.

The vehicles include Jeep Wrangler 4Xe's built between 2020 and 2025 as well as Grand Cherokee 4Xe produced between 2022 and 2026, the US auto safety regulator said in a report dated Oct. 30.

Stellantis did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of the automaker declined 2.5% on the CAC-40 in Paris.

Italian oil and gas company Eni has agreed to cancel 21 liquefied natural gas cargoes to Pakistan under its long-term supply contract, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing an official document and people familiar with the matter.

The cancellations are part of Islamabad's plan to reduce excess LNG imports that have oversupplied its gas network, the report said. The agreement was made under flexibility provisions in the contract with Pakistan which runs through 2032, according to the report.

Eni did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of Eni were off 0.53% in Milan.
