European Equities Traded in the US as American Depositary Tread Water in Friday Trading

11:03 AM EST, 12/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were treading water late Friday morning, edging 0.055% higher to 1,351.69 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index, which has gained 1.4% for the week.

From continental Europe, the gainers were led by biotech firm BioNTech (BNTX) and internet browser company Opera (OPRA), which rose 4.4% and 2.3% respectively. They were followed by 3D printer company Materialise (MTLS) and pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) , which were up 1.9% and 1.7% respectively.

The decliners from continental Europe were led by biopharmaceutical company DBV Technologies ( DBVT ) and petroleum refiner Equinor ( EQNR ) , which fell 4% and 3.1% respectively. They were followed by semiconductor company Sequans Communications ( SQNS ) and oil and gas company Eni (E), which were down 2.4% and 0.8% respectively.

From the UK and Ireland, the gainers were led by biopharmaceutical companies Mereo BioPharma Group ( MREO ) and Bicycle Therapeutics ( BCYC ) , which advanced 9.2% and 3% respectively. They were followed by software firm Endava ( DAVA ) and pharmaceutical company Silence Therapeutics ( SLN ) , which increased by 4.1% and 2.5% respectively.

The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by biotech firm Trinity Biotech ( TRIB ) and biopharmaceutical company Amarin ( AMRN ) , which dropped 10% and 1.5% respectively. They were followed by oil and gas companies BP (BP) and Shell (SHEL), which lost 1.4% and 1.3% respectively.
