07:04 AM EDT, 06/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The main US stock measures were marginally higher before the open Tuesday as investors await the retail sales report for May at 8:30 am ET.
Standard & Poor's 500 futures edged up 0.1% and the Nasdaq added 0.2% in premarket activity, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was slightly in the red. The majority of Asian exchanges were trending upwards while European bourses were heading north.
On the economic calendar, in addition to retail sales data, is the industrial production report for last month at 9:15 am. The business inventories report for April is out at 10 am.
Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President Thomas Barkin is scheduled to speak at 10 am, while Boston Fed President Susan Collins speaks at 11:40 am. St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem and Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan are set to speak at 1 pm, while Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee speaks at 2 pm.
Patterson Cos ( PDCO ). (PDCO) reports its latest financial results before the bell, among others. KB Home ( KBH ) posts earnings in the afterhours.
Lennar's ( LEN ) shares declined 3.4% pre-bell despite recording better-than-expected fiscal second-quarter results. La-Z-Boy ( LZB ) jumped nearly 10% as the furniture manufacturer's fiscal fourth-quarter results topped analyst estimates.
US markets will be closed on Wednesday for the Juneteenth National Independence Day, reopening on Thursday.
Before the opening bell, bitcoin dropped 1.8% to $65,504, West Texas Intermediate dipped 0.2% to $80.19 a barrel, 10-year US Treasuries rose 1.5 basis points to 4.294% and gold nudged down 0.3% to $2,323 an ounce.
