Jun 17, 2025 5:20 AM

07:50 AM EDT, 06/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- European bourses tracked lower midday Tuesday amid an ongoing military conflict between Israel and Iran, and on rising prospects for disruptions in crude-oil shipments.

US President Donald Trump left a G-7 economic summit early, and took to social media to warn that "everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!"

Oil stocks bucked trends to gain, while bank and tech issues lagged.

Investors also eyed Wall Street futures signaling red, and choppy closes overnight on Asian exchanges.

In economic news, Germany's economic sentiment index rose to 47.5 this month from 25.2 in May, reported the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW). Rate cuts by the European Central Bank (ECB) and larger German fiscal outlays were credited to rise in sentiment.

The pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 Index was down 0.7% mid-session.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index was off 1.5%, and the Stoxx 600 Banks Index lost 1.8%.

The Stoxx Europe 600 Oil and Gas Index was up 1%, but the Stoxx 600 Europe Food and Beverage Index declined 0.6%.

The REITE, a European REIT index, fell 0.6%, and the Stoxx Europe 600 Retail Index lost 0.2%.

On the national market indexes, Germany's DAX was down 0.9%, and the FTSE 100 in London was off 0.4%. The CAC 40 in Paris fell 0.7%, and Spain's IBEX 35 lost 1.2%.

Yields on benchmark 10-year German bonds were higher, near 2.52%.

Front-month North Sea Brent crude-oil futures were up 2% at $74.66 a barrel.

The Euro Stoxx 50 volatility index was up 9.5% at 21.87.
