In corporate news, AstraZeneca (AZN) and partner Daiichi Sankyo voluntarily cancelled an application to market their lung cancer treatment datopotamab deruxtecan in the European Union following critical feedback from the European Medicines Agency.
The pan-continental Stoxx Europe 600 Index was up 0.3% mid-session.
The Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index and Stoxx 600 Banks Index were 0.4% higher.
The Stoxx Europe 600 Oil and Gas Index advanced by 0.5%, but the Stoxx 600 Europe Food and Beverage Index was 0.2% lower.
The REITE, a European REIT index, rose 0.7%, and the Stoxx Europe 600 Retail Index was up 0.5%.
On the national market indexes, Germany's DAX was down 0.2%, and the FTSE 100 in London was up 0.5%. The CAC 40 in Paris was 0.6% higher, and Spain's IBEX 35 rose by 0.3%.
Yields on benchmark 10-year German bonds were slightly higher at 2.3%. Front-month North Sea Brent crude-oil futures were up 0.9% to $73.28 per barrel.
The Euro Stoxx 50 volatility index was up 2.1% to 17.19. A reading above 20 indicates choppier markets ahead, while below 20 suggests calmer exchanges.
