Nasdaq Dips Over 100 Points; Unity Software Shares Jump

U.S. stocks traded lower midway through trading, with the Nasdaq Composite falling over 100 points on Thursday.

The Dow traded down 0.62% to 42,280.33 while the NASDAQ fell 0.70% to 19,175.52. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.59% to 5,846.80.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Energy shares rose by 1.2% on Thursday.

In trading on Thursday, real estate shares fell by 0.6%.

Top Headline

The S&P Global manufacturing PMI declined to 49.4 in December compared to 49.7 in the prior month, and versus a revised preliminary reading of 48.3.

Equities Trading UP

                       

Carmell Corporation ( CTCX ) shares shot up 156% to $0.7371 after the company announced an agreement to acquire Elevai Skincare.

Shares of N2OFF, Inc. ( NITO ) got a boost, surging 257% to $0.8471 after the company announced its joint venture with Soltera Renewable Energy obtained approval for a 111 MWp solar PV project in Meltz, Germany.

Unity Software Inc. ( U ) shares were also up, gaining 9% to $24.47 on the heels of a new post from meme stock trader Keith Gill, also known as “Roaring Kitty." Gill's latest post on X has sparked speculation that the trader could be planning to invest in shares of Unity Software ( U ).

Equities Trading DOWN

Neumora Therapeutics, Inc. ( NMRA ) shares dropped 81% to $2.0250 after the company announced its Phase 3 KOASTAL study did not demonstrate statistically significant improvement on its primary endpoint.

Shares of Exodus Movement, Inc. ( EXOD ) were down 12% to $27.00.

Jayud Global Logistics Limited ( JYD ) was down, falling 12% to $2.82.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 2.2% to $73.31 while gold traded up 1% at $2,666.60.

Silver traded up 2.2% to $29.880 on Thursday, while copper fell 0.1% to $4.0220.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.54%, Germany's DAX 40 gained 0.39% and France's CAC 40 rose 0.15%. Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 0.55%, while London's FTSE 100 rose 1.13%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed mixed on Thursday, with China's Shanghai Composite Index falling 2.66%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dipping 2.18% and India's BSE Sensex gaining 1.83%.

Economics

U.S. initial jobless claims fell by 9,000 from the previous week to a reading of 211,000 in the final week of 2024, and versus market estimates of 222,000.

The S&P Global manufacturing PMI declined to 49.4 in December compared to 49.7 in the prior month, and versus a revised preliminary reading of 48.3.

U.S. construction spending unexpectedly stalled month-over-month to an annual rate of $2,153 billion in November compared to a revised 0.5% gain in October and missing market estimates of a 0.3% rise.
