07:17 AM EDT, 10/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US benchmark equity indexes were tracking in the green before the bell Friday as traders assess the latest quarterly results from major companies so far and brace for key tech earnings scheduled to be released next week.
Standard & Poor's 500 and the Nasdaq rose 0.3% each in premarket activity, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.2%. The majority of Asian and European exchanges were pointing higher.
Shares of Capri (CPRI) fell 47% pre-bell as a federal court temporarily blocked the Michael Kors and Versace owner's proposed $8.5 billion acquisition by luxury fashion rival Tapestry (TPR) on competition concerns. Coach and Kate Spade owner Tapestry shares jumped 16%.
L3Harris Technologies ( LHX ) shares increased 4.4% as the aerospace and defense technology company reported better-than-expected third-quarter results. DexCom ( DXCM ) dropped 6.6% as the company reported its latest quarterly results. Deckers Outdoor ( DECK ) climbed 14% as the company lifted its full-year sales outlook.
HCA Healthcare ( HCA ) , Colgate-Palmolive ( CL ) , Aon (AON), Centene ( CNC ) , Booz Allen Hamilton ( BAH ) , Gentex ( GNTX ) , AutoNation ( AN ) , New York Community Bancorp ( NYCB/PU ) , First Hawaiian ( FHB ) , Newell Brands ( NWL ) and Carter's (CRI) post their latest financial results early Friday, among others.
On the economic calendar, the durable goods orders report for September is out at 8:30 am ET, followed by the final University of Michigan consumer sentiment report for October at 10 am. The weekly Baker Hughes domestic oil-and-gas rig count is due at 1 pm.
Federal Reserve Bank of Boston President Susan Collins is scheduled to speak at 11 am.
Before the opening bell, bitcoin declined 0.4% to $67,817, West Texas Intermediate crude oil gained 0.7% to $70.69 a barrel, yields on 10-year Treasuries slipped 0.4 basis points to 4.2% and gold decreased 0.6% to $2,733 an ounce.
